85 kms. Speedo 03045. Full tank. Weather rainy and very windy.
Landed at Schiphol at 0655h after 12 hours of sitting. A long but pleasant flight. I did think that the flight attendants were very busy taking care of everyone with meals and drinks, etc. They did a good job. I took the express train to Utrecht and then a taxi to RB Motoren in De Bilt. I was going to catch a bus and walk a bit, but a taxi seemed better in the rain. It’s no good looking like a “drowned rat” on my first day. What would the locals think of us Aussies?
The Yamaha XT660Z Tenere was waiting for me. On the internet I liked all the Tenere colours:, white, red, blue and mostly the tan, but not so much the black. I got a black one! After the paperwork, loading my gear and giving away €2,500, I rode away, very happy with my choice of adventure bike. Peter was good with his help in the shop, “Thanks mate”. I needed a Greencard for the European Insurance and a Bill-of-Sale for proof of ownership, all originals. All the paperwork numbers are correct. I am a bit fussy with correct paperwork having seem too many people delay the queues at Customs/Douane and also having their vehicles impounded.
It was a very enjoyable ride to Wilma & Cees’. The rain allowed me to try my new hi-viz green rainsuit and the GPS allowed me to see the sites and practice U turns. After closely following the GPS instructions, because I know how to closely follow instruction, I ended up at the Lelystad Rubbish Dump. The man in the orange hi-viz shirt thought it was his lucky day. I was dumping a new motorbike? But no, I pointed to the GPS and did a U turn. He just laughed. Maybe I should also watch for street signs, too!
Several more U turns because of roadworks and I was with my family. I like the high seat and ride of this Tenere. Only 3 months old with 3,046 kms on the speedo.
My home for the next few days, at Luttelgeest, Netherlands.
