Day 19. Berlin DE to Rheinsberg DE. 167 kms.

Location: Rheinsberg, Germany

I didn't travel far today.   I was hoping to be on the ferry to Denmark, but I got side-tracked again.

I spent nearly 2 hours at Louis Motorbike Giga Store (Giga is even bigger than a Mega Store).
So many motorbike toys.   I could easily spend a day or two.   I bought myself some things, mainly braces.   Lynn and I have been looking for a while and these are the heavy duty pair I need for my M/C trousers.   I also purchased a hi-viz strap for the top-box to hope it is more visible than the black.

After Louis, I rode to Potsdam, about 50kms from Berlin.   This is the place for palaces and castles (Schlosses).   I paid my parking fee at the Sanssouci Palace and was then told at the ticket office, “come back in 1 hour, the palace is full.”   It’s a big palace!!!   Next time.   I went for coffee instead.

While programming Zumo, I spotted a lonely looking castle symbol on the map on the way to Rostock, where I will catch the ferry, so I decided to visit.   What a joyful ride from: freeway, to small bitumen, to cobblestones, to dirt, and then to new bitumen to Rheinsberg.   All this adventure in about 40kms.   The forest areas by the lakes are a treat to ride through.   Heidi will like the forest pictures, I’m sure.

At Rheinsberg, I visited the castle of Crown Prince Frederick, later to be King Frederick, The Great.   The photos will give you some idea.   I was told after a while that I was not allowed to take pictures, so not many inside photos, but beautiful to wander through.   Try google.

My hotel room is something else.  A big room, a private balcony, a room key that holds in your shirt pocket and a bathroom fit for a king.   An old king, or a king with some mobility difficulties.   I found that this is a special hotel, not like the special hotels we found in South America, (the love hotels).   I like the roominess and uncluttered feeling.   I just hope that I don’t need to press any of the many emergency “NOTRUF” alarm buttons, and have the staff racing in the help me.   I sure you know what I mean.   I hope when I get old, our place is as nice and as functional as this.   Goodnight.

Tomorrow, it’s on the ferry, unless something better comes up.

  4. Hi Kirsty,
The bike shop was heaven. I wished I had more room on the bike, so I could buy more. I do need some waterproof gloves, though. Maybe, I can go back there!!!.
